Once upon a time, a tortoise crawled around the animal Kingdom and fell into a ditch. He stayed there many nights when the animals could not rescue him.
Finally, the day came for the animals to rescue him. Everyone was at the site; the elephant, the lion, the antelope, snake even fowl. All were running around to save the tortoise.
This was when the tortoise became impatient and started complaining that the ditch was smelling, ants were crawling all over its body, and they should be fast in rescuing it. The tortoise was eventually brought out.
I have less than a month to wrap up with the National Youth Service Corps, the one-year compulsory scheme for all Nigerian graduates. My patience is so thin now. On the 12th when the Batch C, Stream 1 corp members were rounding up, I was so sad. I wished to be part of this.
“But yours is so close already” Yes. I know. But I can't wait for it to happen already. I had to assess my feelings and know where it was coming from. This is when I realised that it was not just about this scheme. Generally, I get impatience when the end is near.
Perhaps this happens to you too. This is when things go south sometimes. You have a project you have been working on for years or months. You have put in efforts and resources and towards the end, impatience steps in and makes a mess of the whole thing.
When you become impatient, anxiety follows and before you know what's happening, the whole thing is going sideways. You will F-up and make mistakes. You must always assess your feelings and emotions at every point to figure out what is happening. If you are suddenly feeling impatient, ask yourself why. Slow down a bit so you don’t make mistakes.
When that impatience creeps in, do your best to put it at bay. Keep your head in the game and wrap up whatever you are doing successfully.
Cheers to your continued growth and a fulfilled life.
With love and everything beautiful,
Chinonyelum.
